-patternElements of Design - Take images for each of the following elements of design.
Line -Linear marks made of objects appear as line. Line can be horizontal or vertical. Example: A stem of a flower can create line.
Shape - A shape is self contained area and can be geometric or organic. Example: Leaf is organic and stop sign is geometric.
Direction: All lines have direction and the direction can create movement in your image. Example: A road will lead us to the background.
Proportion - The relationship between the size of objects. Example: If you have a hand in the foreground and a person in the distance, the person will appear to
be smaller than the hand in the foreground.
Texture - Texture is the surface quality of a shape and can be rough, smooth, soft, hard, or shiny. Example: Tree bark has more texture than a leaf.
Value: The lightness or darkness of a color. Value is also called tone. Example: A picture of the trees will have a black shadow, gray leaves and white sky and all the gray values in between. A sunny day will work better than a cloudy day because the sun will create more shadows.
1.) Create an image for each element.
2.) Choose a subject that works best for each element.
3.) Be aware that lighting can help to create a more pleasing image. Be sure to use the "rule of thirds".
4.) Each team will create and present a power point that shows examples of each element of design. Be prepared to
talk about why you choose images that work best to support t
Portraiture - 2 Images - One image with window light and one with standard beauty lighting.
Make sure the eyes have a highlight in both.
Every person is unique, and it's your job to reveal that to the viewer.
Make sure the shadows on the face do not create a distraction for the viewer.
Create an image that has visual interest by using compositional elements.
1.) Create a proof sheet
2.) Print the best image that most communicates your idea
3.) Write a reflection

HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD STREET PERFORMANCE
This picture displays someone who has a broken view about herself. I used a digital camera and made it black and white.
Photobooth project
I captured myself in three images. The first one is my overwhelmed and worried about the constant stress I find myself in. The second image is how exhausted I constantly am, and the third image displays me as a character, or acting goofy. Sometimes I feel like I have two personalities; a tired, quiet girl and a loud character who says funny things and makes weird faces.
A photoshop project:
I found this interesting black and white forest-looking background on google and used the lasso tool to cut myself and paste it onto this background. This picture displays me caught in my worries so I wanted a background to give off the same feel. I used the burn tool to create more detail in the scarf I draped around my head and neck and also my forehead wrinkles. If I could change one thing about this picture, it would be the obnoxious coffee stain on the bottom of my scarf.

I love Ryan Gosling. Thus, I wanted to capture a funny image of me and him using photoshop to cut myself out of a different image and paste it next to the handsome Gosling. The title of this image is "It Was Hard for Me and Ryan to Wake Up This Morning," capturing us with our eyes closed in a tired manner. If I could change one thing in this image, I would work harder to eliminate the remaining white glow surrounding my body to make it look more realistic.
This picture was taken using studio lighting as well as window lighting. This picture displays the mess people can get caught up in if they abuse technology. I believe that the abuse of technology can lead to broken relationships, distraction, impatience and a separation from reality. I used my old headphones and my great grandmas old telephone to wrap around her neck. I sat her on a leather black couch and told her to look "overwhelmed" or "frightened." I used to burn tool to create bags under her eyes and to highlight to detailing on her shirt and the phone.
In this portrait lit by window lighting, I wanted to capture the spirit of my best friend. This picture captures both the sweetness she posses and her giddiness. The struggle shooting this picture was trying to get her to sit still. We were having a conversation about something that happened that day as I was trying to photograph her so this is the least blurry shot I could find. I wanted to capture the sparkle in her eye, which I feel I accomplished. After using both studio and window lighting, I would have to say that window lighting is my favorite.
I absolutely loved what my two good friends Jada Temple and Carson McCalley were wearing one day so, I asked If I could use them for this fashion photo shoot assignment. I love photographing my friends because they feel comfortable around me and thus more comfortable in front of the camera. This photo is inspired by 1960's mens fashion when Jean material and white -t shirts became fashionable. They have now come back into style in 2013-2014.
Ever since I was little, the look of worn brick has always caught my eye. As a painter, I love working with patterns and texture, thus the look of the model's camo jacket up against the worn brick worked beautifully.
I always love walking around Hillcrest and watching all of the interesting people. These men were two of the most interesting people I have ever met. As they walked past me, I instantly was drawn to their fashion and style, thus, I asked them if I could take their picture. The pattern and texture of their clothing looked amazing up against the black and white tiled wall. As I was taking this picture, a group of men came up to us, wanting to purchase drugs. Thus, I found myself wound up in a drug deal, but I didn't want weed, I WANTED to capture these two characters.
This was my first picture ever taken with a film camera. This is the picture that started it all; my love for film. I wanted to play with the lines in his shirt and the lines on the wall to correlate together. I shot this picture on the sides of two classrooms in an alleyway in order to show a boy ditching class. This image had an emotional impact on me because this image not only represents a "ditcher" but it also displays a social outcast. I believe that everyone at some point in time has felt different than everybody else, or like they don't fit in.
I was captivated by the ally ways in Hillcrest, San Diego. They were so rustic and geometric, lined with brick and beautiful shapes. I have always been fascinated with ally ways, maybe because my mom always told me to stay out of them. People obviously gravitate towards the front of buildings with their flashy signs, colors and objects on display, but what about the side of them? I was intrigued with the texture and geometric shapes of the wall the model is leaning against.
I wanted to retake the "Ally Cat One" using film to capture a worn and old looking photo.
This picture was taken on one of the busiest street in Downtown San Diego. It was almost impossible to take, due to all of the commotion and people passing by. When I pass people on the street, I wonder what their life is like. Where are they going? Why? Are they happy? Has something traumatic happened in their life? I named this piece "Passing By" because I wanted the viewer to be intrigued by the story of the stranger in this photograph, much like how I am by strangers on the street.
This pictures main purpose was to convey irony. The model seems to be in deep thought, attempting to relieve her stress by smoking. She is sitting in a dump, (the most gruesome area I could find to take this picture), and her life is at the lowest of low. The irony present in this photograph is the bold tattoo on her wrist that reads, "Pray." As she seems to be in deep thought of what to do with her broken life, the answer is tattooed onto her body.
Although similar to the picture above, this one focuses more on the face of the model as opposed to her tattoo. I wanted to show the grossness of the area, contrasting with the beauty of the model herself, thus still showing irony.
In the past couple weeks I have been entertained by the idea of isolation. Because I am an extremely extroverted person and feel the need to constantly entertain people, I find myself starving for isolation and peace. I wanted to capture the "stress reliever," the cigarette, and the idea of isolation. I personally believe that smoking and drinking are a terrible resort for peace and relief, hence the title "Dark Escape."
The shower is a place I go to isolate myself and think things over. I wanted the intense contrast between the lightness of the window and the darkness of the model in order to convey a sense of isolation from the bright outside world. This photo was taken with natural lighting around the time I usually take a shower myself. I believe that shower pictures can tell a lot about someone; what kind of day they had, their energy, emotions, etc.
Imperfections
I wanted this image to depict the emotions most girls feel when coming face to face with a mirror. I wanted the model to be fresh out of the shower with no make up and wet hair, so that she would be coming face to face with her pure self. As a women my self, I feel the most insecure after a shower when all of the make up has streaked off and I am forced to see myself without my mask. I wanted this picture to be very raw and in-the-moment.

Wash Away
I wanted this picture to depict how I feel after a long, exhausting day when I slowly make my way to the shower and wash away the commotion of my day. When I take a shower early in the morning or late at night, I place my elbow on the wall, my hand on my head, close my eyes, and stand this way until I realize how much water I'm waiting. I wanted the models eyes to be streaking with black make up, to show that she is washing away the darkness from day in order to find peace and rest.

Stress is something that every human being on planet earth has felt at some point in time. This picture describes how I'm feeling on the inside whenever I am stressed out. I wanted the picture to posses cool and dark tones in order to convey the dark feeling of stress. During the time I took this picture, I was feeling stress and pressure in school. Schoolwork, acting, painting and the pressure to be outstanding in every area of my life was piling up and all I wanted to was scream.
This piece was an experimental piece, being that It was my first attempt photographing using mirror. I wanted the mirror to be scratched, as if she see's her face itself as scratched and imperfect. I wanted the lighting in the back to be very dark, so that the strong edges of the mirror are clearly defined and geometric
I believe 100% that mirrors can be deadly. Every single day, ususally multiple times a day, humans are looking at themselves in the mirror, examining, searching, and picking every detail of their imperfect selves. This deeply concerns me, mostly because I am one of these people. Although there are children being neglected, dying of starvation, injustice happening around every corner, natural disasters, etc., people still can't seem to fix their attention away from themselves and put it towards things that matter more then the pimple on their forehead.
